32 Hour Suspended Scaffold Supervisor
Course Description
During this course students will explore New York City Construction Codes and OSHA Regulations as it pertains to the supervision of suspended scaffolds. Participants will learn the most current suspended scaffold standards, and will include guidance on how to read scaffold design drawings, how to verify the fitness of the rigging crew, properly train workers on related hazards, and also how to identify and respond to emergency situations. This course will include a hands-on portion where students will learn about and apply rope knots, terminate wire rope, build a block and tackle system, effectively install fall protection systems, and inspect/maintain different types of scaffold hoist motors. Hands-on assessment will be made by the instructor to determine if each student is capable of performing the above mentioned scaffolding and rigging applications. Each student is required to independently complete a multiple-choice final exam.

Learning Outcomes
Identify suspended scaffold systems and their essential components
Discuss common suspended scaffold hazards based on statistical and historical data provided
Outline differences between OSHA and NYC DOB scaffold regulations and their sources
Demonstrate practical skills necessary to properly install and maintain fall protection systems used on suspended scaffolds
Create a suspended scaffold inspection checklist using provided requirements
Apply various applications & connection techniques using ropes, knots & hitches
Assemble the block and tackle for a fiber rope light duty scaffold
Construct the wire rope termination for hoisting rope on suspended scaffolds
Prerequisites
This course bundle is appropriate for individuals who meet the qualifications of a Supervisor under Local Law 196. For more information on Local Law 196 visit our FAQ page. Students need to be able to verbally communicate with an instructor in the primary language of the training.
Training Requirement
As per 3314.4.5.3 of the 2014 NYC Construction Codes, this course is required by the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) to supervise suspended scaffold projects on construction sites in New York City.
Audience
Experienced workers with at least one year of practical experience in hoisting and rigging and whose roles require supervision of suspended scaffold projects. This training is also beneficial for safety managers, superintendents, and individuals planning to apply for the New York City Master or Special Rigger’s license.
Completion Requirements
100% attendance in the course and active participation in all learning activities including required multiple-choice quizzes to be eligible to receive course completion cards. Students will receive course completion materials for each of the successfully completed SST courses listed above.
Make-up time is not permitted for this training course. Students who miss time from any individual session must reschedule and attend the full training course.
